searching for a small plane that disappeared in the mountains of central idaho. dale smith is an experienced pilot and the co-founder and ceo of a san jose tech company. also on board.smith's daughter, her fiance, smith's son, and daughter in law. the plane lost contact with air traffic controllers sunday during bad weather in idaho. on tuesday some potentially good news.a faint signal from the plane's emergency beacon. but search teams have not found any sign of the plane.or the people that were on it. the plane took off sunday from baker city, oregon.it was headed to butte montana.and now crews are searching near the tiny central idaho town of yellow pine.where cell phone pings from people on board were last recorded. no linefriends, family, co- workers and neighbors.are all hoping for the best. amber's supposed to get married in a month according to her facebook page. the search has will start up again at daybreak. >> pleasanton police are searching for a 13-year-old girl. who was last seen on sunday. police say ana elizarraras is considered to be at-risk because of her age. she was last seen getting into a car with three men her brother made an

emotional plea for her safe return. >> i just want her to come back. it is not pretend anymore. not seen her face in the morning is hard. >> there has been an outpouring so far detectives have no leads in the investigation >> some treasure island residents are not happy this morning after receiving a notice to vacate their properties beause of toxic cleanup. last night many residents attended a meeting and had many questions about when they'll have to leave their homes. the navy wants to start remediating the solid waste disposal areas in 2014. tenants will have to start relocating starting in the spring. ultimately, all the houses in the treasure and yerba buena islands development plan will be demolished, but this is the first step.

although they're cleaning, the treasure island development authority says there's no immediate hazard. there is enough housing on the island to accommodate the 24 households that are being uprooted. >> we have been holding back inventory in anticipation of future relocations. that is cords will allow us to accommodate the relocations. maligned >> there are grand development plans ahead for treasure island, but before that can happen, the navy has to clean up the toxins it left behind. now. 24 households on treasure island have received a notice to vacate their properties. because of the cleanup effort. and those people are not feeling that nice, holiday spirit right now. and showed

>> surveillance video is being released of a possible suspect responsible for taking to cats from their own earned run them into the bay. the incident happened in san francisco last week near pier 14. officials say a woman was carrying her two adult cats in a carrier. when the suspect grabbed the woman's belongings and threw them into the bay. both cats died in the incident. the suspect you see in the video is described as a white man standing about 6 feet tall. he is facing animal cruelty charges. >> coming up on on the kron 4 news spread a renewed a lawsuit tackle's religion and obama care, just as the

>> welcome back. it is a very cold start for the day. here is erica up with the forecast. >> it is very chilly outside. san francisco is not too bed sitting at 42 degrees. san jose has recently dropped to the 30's. there below freezing in santa rosa. the coldest spots are north of the golden gate bridge. some of us may drop to the upper 20s within the next hour. the temperatures will continue to decline as we go closer into sunrise. we are talking record lows for the week of december. san rafael have a high of 32 degrees. napa up could

break a 1 record and the same goes for those of you in richmond. in some cases in has not been this cold since 1942. can you believe that? >> we have the freeze watch in affect for most of the bay area but for the next couple of days. san francisco is not impacted by this freeze watch. here is a look at the afternoon high everyone will be in the same bolt. upper 40's or low 50's. mountain view will have a high of upper 50s. we could see 40's for places like pittsburg. 51 degrees for vallejo. it will be a sunny day it will look pretty but it will still be cold outside. 349 degrees

that is not going to impact your ride. if you're going to the san mateo bridge it is a nice ride in both directions. we really are not dealing with windy conditions like we did yesterday. there are no advisories to speak about. all is well for northbound 101 from coyote valley interstate 280 is ok into and out san jose. currently we are at top speeds if you're using 85 to cupertino. >> later today, officials in connecticut will release the 911 calls that were made from inside sandy hook elementary school the day of killed 20 students and six educators. this is after the state prosecutor dropped his fight to continue withholding the calls. he's been ordered to release them. state's attorney stephen sedensky the third had argued that survivors of last december's newtown shooting deserved special protection as victims of child abuse. >> today. authorities are

expected to release the results of autopsies on the two bodies recovered from the fiery crash that killed "fast & furious" actor paul walker and his friend.roger rodas. walker's publicist has said the actor was the passenger when rodas' 2005 porsche carrera gt crashed into a light pole and tree and exploded into flames saturday. the families of both men have provided dental records, which will allow not only formal identification of the bodies, but also official word on whether walker or rodas was behind the wheel. three universal pictures will donate a percentage of the proceeds from fast-and- furious six to paul walker's non-profit. walker helped establish "reach out worldwide" after the earthquake that devastated haiti in 2010. on its website, the organization describes itself as providing skilled resources in the aftermath of such disasters. >> people representing the engineer of the new york city commuter train that

derailed sunday killing four people and injuring 63 others say he experienced a hypnosis-like "daze" and nodded at the controls just before the wreck, and by the time he caught himself it was too late. the attorney who accompanied engineer william rockefeller to his interview with federal investigators says the daze was almost like road fatigue. the train was traveling nearly three times over the speed limit. >> a t-s-a officer at l-a- x makes his first court appearance today. paul ciancia is not expected to enter a plea today. he's being held in the west valley detention center in rancho cucamonga. an autopsy shows t-s-a officer gerardo hernandez was shot a dozen times last month. three other people were wounded in the shooting. in >> in massachusetts today, a 14 year old boy is set to be arraigned on murder, rape and robbery charges in the death of his high school math teacher. philip chism is suspected of killing colleen ritzer, a

popular teacher at danvers high school. she was found in the woods near the school in october. her throat was cut and there was a note reading, "i hate you all." police have not released a motive for the teacher's death. >> california governor jerry brown has filed an appeal to president obama in a renewed effort to get federal aid in the wake of the rim fire. the federal emergency management agency denied continued assistance for mariposa and tuolomne counties on november 4th. fema said the damage wasn't severe enough to be beyond the state and local governments' ability to repair. according to the governor's office, current estimates of the damage caused by the fire exceed 54 million dollars. the fire began august 17th.and was not completely contained until october 24th. >> vice president joe biden's wednesday meeting in beijing with chinese president xi jinping is likely to be tense amid a dispute over airspace. yesterday, biden stood in

japan and publicly rebuked china for trying to enforce its will on its neighbors by declaring its airspace over islands in the east china sea that it and japan both claim. >> an unwanted animal was left outside in the cold sunday night at contra costa county animal services in martinez. this is the pitbull found tied to a fence outside the animal shelter the manager of the facility says that pets being dumped by their owners. sadly, is not uncommon this time of year. >> "we call it holiday dumping which is a collective term for. craziness that's happening." >> officials at contra costa county animal services say they will put the abandoned pit bull up for adoption. hoping to find this big, lovable guy a suitable home.

>> richmond's anti- smoking laws are some of the toughest on record. and there is a new step to expand those laws to include e-cigarettes. the city council voted unanimously last night. to adopt a new ordinance which would ban smoking the electronic cigarettes. in any enclosed space, and even some open-air locations, such as fenced parks. the ordinance says, violators can be hit with fines of up to one- thousand dollars. the ordinance will be given a second reading early next year, and may become law 90- days later. >> here is a live look outside and we have a shot from the building and sampras's go where people are bundling up. the morning progresses you can see more and more people are arriving for work. there are really

>> welcome back. students from three san francisco high schools were named winners in district attorney george gascon's second annual anti- bullying video contest. the "bye bye bullying" contest, launched in october, asked participating san francisco middle and high students to make a 60-second video about cyber bullying. forty entries were submitted, and the three winning videos were announced at a ceremony at san francisco city hall this afternoon.

gascon introduced the videos, calling them "powerful" and reflected on his youth as an immigrant with limited english skills getting bullied at school. >> the education department has created an online financial aid toolkit aimed at helping guidance counselors and others who advise students with college applications. the toolkit can be found at financial aid toolkit dot ed dot gov. it has details about applying for financial aid and repaying student loans. it also has documents advisers can download and information about professional development information. this is one of the measures the obama administration has taken to make the college application process go smoother. >> award-winning san francisco chef judy rodgers dies san francisco - judy rodgers, the award-winning chef-owner of san francisco's zuni cafe, has died. she was 57. gilbert pilgram, her business partner and longtime friend, said rodgers died monday after succumbing to cancer of the appendix. the james beard foundation named the zuni cafe 2003's outstanding restaurant in america. rodgers won beard's outstanding chef award a year later, beating out notable chef mario batali and others.

rodgers started cooking in the 1970s after being inspired by alice waters' chez panisse, where she met her business partner pilgram. pilgram says he'll continue to run zuni's kitchen. >> a host on h-g-t-v was been killed in a motorcycle accident in san francisco. bill beckwith. co-host of 'curb appeal'. was killed monday night in a motorcycle accident in san francisco's lower haight. police say, beckwith was hit by a car near oak and steiner streets around 8:30. beckwith suffered head trauma and died at a hospital. the driver of the car that struck him is cooperating with the investigation. beckwith was a carpenter and general contractor. he owned his own bay area construction business. h-g-t-v says in a statement that his creativity, adventurous spirit and general love of life will be missed. line we have clear and cold conditions around the bay and i will talk about the freeze watch and what the temperatures will be light later on this afternoon when we continue. xñ

align welcome back. it is cold outside and the temperatures are in the 30's and 20's. maligned for a lot of people there is a drastic drop in temperatures and fact we are at 20 degrees cooler than where we were 24 hours ago. here is a look at the temperatures. 42 degrees currently in oakland and 34 just above the freezing mark in vallejo. the coldest spot sir actually north of the golden gate bridge. it is the protected valleys where we will see the coldest temperatures. it is so cold that we actually could shatter some old records. >> san rafael could break a

record from 2004. livermore will have a 23 degrees but napa can break their record and it hasn't been this cold since 1936. we're talking very rigid conditions. we do have a freeze watch for most of the bay area. san francisco is the only exception. we will not see much warm for the afternoon and most of us will stay into the upper 40's, low 50's. concord will have a high of 43 degrees just a week ago these were the morning lows. the temperatures were above 70. there is definitely a change and it is even colder for tomorrow morning. in fact places like san jose and sunnyvale will be 10 degrees cooler. we will attack on the likelihood for rain.
